How's everyone doing, since nothing has been posted in a while I figured I'll put some stuff up.

Alrighty, So I know its been forever since I posted anything, but I have been the busiest I've have probably been since arriving out here with small freelance stuff, Which hasn't been paying great, but its is paying! Its just not the funnest kind of thing to work on and it fucking draaaaaaaiiinns the shit out me as far as artistic juices go. After sitting behind my laptop painting battle monsters for a few hrs everyday the last thing I want to do is stay at my computer and do personal work....

But! I did manage to redo this guy below into a workable final state. I just nixed all the background elements after seeing everybody critique and decided it was better to just focus on the creature design element of it without a distracting background set peices. I have also come to a little bit of a conclusion that I dont really like too much color, and im going to step away from it for awhile and stick with mostly Greyscale. I been terribly unhappy about the way my color stuff looks recently so i think I just need to step away from it a bit and come at it from a different angle. I also think that Im giong to follow this guy up with a few drawing detailing the harness and mount setup, for an all around design, not just one illustration.

 Not all concepty, really. Some are illustrationy. I'm trying not to spend too much time on any of them though. They're all under 45 minutes I think. I'm going through a purple phase.

Comments and crits would be helpful. I think you may see more actual design stuff from me soon, who knows.

After break

After some failed hard drive problems, I'm back.  Doing another semi speed painting tonight from a photo from last winter.  Struggling with this one, but I'm finding it easier to break the stutter halting of creating a painting...whatever that means.

I'll update later...busy trying to get a board game done...bllaahhh..Happy Holidays all!

Animation fun

I've been working on a fun acting animation that I could put in my reel, so I don't have so much Robo-san in it.  I'm trying to time it all out first, so I thought I could ask you guys if it seems to be working.  The part when he he's bent over for the jump I want to be kind of a build up and then I want him to hang in the air for a bit.  Then the part when he just flips over is where I'm gonna have a dog run under him and knock him over.  It's gonna be fast, but where he's just stuck in the air is where you'll get to see the dog (it'll be slow motion).

Any advice is appreciated

Hey all, sitting here doing this right now, finish a little bit later, about 40 minutes or so right now.

Trying to just start in color, actually enjoying it, working using a pic I took at Loose Park a few weeks back, had some great lighting and color relationships.

Thoughts welcome.

a very blizzardy Orc

Well, I finally got around to finishing that orc shaman DndD test that I made a rough for waaaaaay back, figure its better late than never! I also wanted a few more blizzardy things in my portfolio, because its a fun style to paint in and is always popular, so I wanted to have a few good examples of it represented in my port.
     Its not exactly my favorite style, but it translates really well into game and card art because of the bright colors and global lighting and all that. I do think that im going to put a hold on painting like this for a bit because I do have enough examples like this built up, and move on to more moody, mostly b&w pieces and get back to the basics of tone and value. Color, in all its complexities, boggle my little brain and I think I need to retreat from it a little bit for now.....Also, I am still having problems calibrating my monitor to the normal setting and I apologize if this is either way too saturated or faded out......my computer is getting along in years and there is something wonky with the way it shows color...


So, how is everybody else holding up?
