Owl Wizard

Put in some more work on this one.

  1. What I really like about this one is how confident it feels. It's very simple and effective, and I love how gnarly that branch is in the foreground. And the way you've composed this I don't even notice it's coming out of nowhere! I don't mean that as a jab either, I think it's great that you're controlling the viewer so much that they only focus where you want.

The main thing that I see in this is that while I really love the simplicity and the subtle tone sof the background, I want to see more color back there, just for some variation. Consider spending more time with Frank Frazetta's work.
What I think is most fantastic about Frazetta is his economy. So many of his backgrounds are simplistic or fade into fog of brush strokes, but they're also incredibly deep. You could get a lot out of putting in just the right colors, which would keep our eye moving around the composition a bit more.
Maybe that's just some glowy things floating around the background and some speckles of moss or fungus of a purple color on the branch.

All in all though, it's really solid and I think it's one of my favorites of yours! Especially that gorgeous wood texture on his back armor.
My concept artist mind says "but he doesn't look much like a wizard with the armor" but I kind of feel like you could ignore that, you can call him whatever you want and he'll still be an interesting character because he's an owl. :D

  3. Fuck yeah dude! Frazetta this shit up!

What I think would give the color in this a lot more depth and texture would just be working in a lot of neutral grays outside of the area of focus, its amazing how little color something actually has to have to make it look fully fleshed out...

That also makes me wonder, though about something, do you paint in straight color, or are you mostly painting in grayscale and overlaying/colorizing things?

and like Donal said, this is looking really blizzardy, I am supper jealous of how solid a portfolio you are building for the trading card/WOTC market. Keep it up killa.
